Drugs worth more than ₹20 crore burnt in public glare in Golaghat
July 17: In an exemplary move, Assam Police on Saturday burnt drugs worth Rs 20 crore in Golaghat in the presence of Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma. A total of 802 gram heroin worth more than Rs 20 crore, 1205 kg ganja, 3kg opium and 2,06,906 tablets were burnt during the day. The fire was lighted in the pyre of drugs by the Chief Minister and DGP Assam.
Expressing his views, Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Kudos to Assam Police for having been diligent in their resolve to eliminate drugs cartels in Assam. We are committed to create a drug free Assam & leaving no stone unturned to eliminate the menace. To ensure this, complete operational freedom has been given to Assam Police to save the state’s youth from the scourge.”

Present during the burning of the drugs were Ajanta Neog, Keshab Mahanta, Atul Bora, Jogen Mohan, Ashok Singhal, director general of police (DGP) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta among others.
