Cachar schools receive massive powergrid boost
Cachar DC thanks POWERGRID for Rs 18.3-crore push to build toilets and repair in 849 schools
Way2barak, August 10 : The Powergrid Corporation of India Ltd (POWERGRID), a public sector enterprise of the Central government engaged in the transmission of electricity, has provided approximately Rs 18.3 crore financial assistance to 849 schools under Cachar district in south Assam for the construction and repair of toilets and running water facilities.
The funds have been sanctioned under the Swachh Vidyalaya Abhiyan CSR scheme for the 2022-24 fiscal. The project covered, among others, Sonai, Katigorah, Udharbond, Narsingpur, Lakhipur,Raja Bazar and Silchar-Salchapra blocks, involving remote locations to reach schools.
Inaugurating two of the newly-constructed toilets for the B C Memorial Academy High School, Udharbond block, on Wednesday, Cachar deputy commissioner Rohan Kumar Jha appreciated the efforts of the POWERGRID towards betterment infrastructure related to hygiene in schools.
“ I would like to thank POWERGRID for their generosity for the development of infrastructure related to education sector of Cachar district. The resources which have been given by POWERGRID to our district has been utilised for more than 800 schools, “ DC Jha said at the inaugural function.
“ We have a total of 2000 schools out of which 40 per cent was covered by POWERGRID which gave a total Rs 18.3 crore. The district is thankful to POWERGRID for the massive infrastructure boost. It is now the duty of the school authorities to properly maintain and utilise the new infrastructure. “Approximately 90 per cent of the project is complete,” the Cachar Deputy Commissioner said.
Out of the 849 schools, repairing of toilets were taken up in 764 schools and new construction of toilets in 85 schools along with providing water supply facilities from existing source or new water source. There is also proposal for the upkeep of the toilets, also from POWERGRID, according to DC Rohan Kumar Jha.
POWERGRID’s DGM , Supriya Paul also thanked the Cachar DC and Education dept for their cooperation during the implementation of the project while referring to the guidance offered by U Kataki, Head, NERTS & K Sreekanth, CMD PGCI.
Dignitaries from POWERGRID present in the inaugural function were N Paul, S Gogoi, Rajnish, K Hore and from Deputy director of Information & Public Relations Barak valley Zone Silchar, Deva Prasad Deori , President of School Committee,Nantu Gosh and principal ,Uday Bhanu Singh.
