Total lockdown will not be declared in any district of Assam, says Health Minister Keshab Mahanta
June 23: While tension mounted among the people of a few districts of Assam including imposition of complete lockdown there, Health Minister Keshab Mahanta on Wednesday clarified that total lockdown will not be imposed in any district. While speaking with the media during his visit to Jorhat district on Wednesday, the state health minister made this announcement.
Earlier, the state government indicated that there chances of complete lockdown in some of the districts of Assam where the number of Covid cases are high. As per Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, the state government was supposed to review the situation during the cabinet meeting on Wednesday, after which the state government would issue new guidelines. However, the cabinet meeting of Wednesday was postponed and is now supposed to be held on Thursday.
Apprehension was high among the people about an impending lockdown in Cachar district as the number of cases were high. However, since, the last few days, the number of fresh positive cases of Covid-19 started to decline. Now, with the announcement of Keshab Mahanta on Wednesday as regards “no complete lockdown in any district of Assam”, people here in Cachar were also able to find some relief.
