Assam University restricts protest within the periphery of its campus

January 12: Assam University, Silchar in the past week witnessed mass protest both in support and favour of the Citizenship (Amendment) Mill, 2016. It is in this backdrop that the University has come up with a strict order. The order issued by the Registrar of Assam University stated that ‘any assemble/procession/dharna or any sort of gathering of people or group of people within the periphery of the University campus without prior approval of the authority is hereby strictly prohibited until further order.’

The said order further stated that ‘any unauthorised reporting, if found, henceforth, will be treated as violation of public order and the person or persons involved in such violation will be held responsible as per rules.’ The order was issued with the approval of the Vice Chancellor of the varsity.
