Barak Valley registers 606 Covid +ve cases on Tuesday, 627 discharged & 4 deaths recorded

There are 5,341 active Covid cases in Barak Valley

June 8: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Tuesday, the number of fresh cases in the valley increased once again. A total of 606 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. Further, during the day, 627 patients were cured and subsequently discharged in the three  districts of the valley. At present, there are 5,341 active Covid cases in Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Monday, Barak Valley registered 548 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Tuesday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 450 positive cases   (It was 380 on Monday)
  • Karimganj: 90 positive cases (It was 93 on Monday)
  • Hailakandi: 66 positive cases (It was 75 on Monday)

A total of 450 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Monday in Cachar. As per the updated data, a total of 14,798 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 351 persons were found positive, whereas 99 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. With this, the total number of Covid cases since 1 April, 2021 reached 13,388 whereas during this phase, 10,224 patients were discharged.

Also, 390 patients were discharged after getting cured during the day. With this, the number of active cases in Cachar has reached 3,036.

Death of Covid-19 patients continued unabated in Barak Valley. The last 24 hours (5 PM on 7 June to 5 PM on 8 June) witnessed demise of 04 Covid-19 positive patients, out of which, 03 died at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) and 01 at South City Hospital. Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board. All the 04 deceased are from Cachar district. The deceased were identified as:

  • Aloka Ree (27) from Badripar in Cachar was admitted at SMCH on 5 June. She, however, passed away at 8.50 PM on 7 June.
  • Akhil Chandra Nath (66) from Meherpur, Silchar took admission at SMCH on 4 June. He breathed his last at 1 AM on 8 June.
  • Lakhhi Rani Seal (55) from Udharbond in Cachar got admitted at SMCH on 3 June. She expired at 9.50 AM on 8 June.
  • Rabaya Begum (75) from Buribail in Cachar was admitted at South City Hospital, Silchar. She died in the afternoon on 8 June.  Though in the media Bulletin issued by DIPRO Cachar, it was stated as death of a Covid patient, yet Nilabha Mazumdar (Mridul), on behalf of the hospital management informed that the lady was already negative when she died.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 8 June, there were 216 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College, out of which 89 patients were there in the ICU, whereas, 127 of them were in the Covid ward. Further, 30 patients were put under ventilator support and 152 of them were in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 25 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 37 of them were discharged. Further, 18 of them have opted for home isolation.

Hailakandi registered 66 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday. Of the 66 positive cases detected on Tuesday, 58 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and 08 found positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 1,205 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 2,271 RAT tests and 305 RT-PCR tests were done. 112 patients were discharged during the day. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 6,880 As of now, a total of 2,271 patients were discharged. It needs mention here that 75 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Monday.

As of now, in the 57,788 persons have received the 1st dose of the vaccine (irrespective of age), whereas, 16,829 have been administered the 2nd dose in Hailakandi district.

Karimganj registered 90 fresh COVID-19 cases on Tuesday. The district has currently 1,100 active COVID-19 cases, while 125 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Tuesday. 3,710 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 93 positive cases were detected in Karimganj on Monday.

On Tuesday, out of 1,33,212 tests, 3,948 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 4,42,694. The positivity rate in the state is 2.96 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 341 positive cases during the day. Further, on Tuesday, 43 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 3,738. The recovery rate is 87.75 percent. On Tuesday, 3,419 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 3,88,451 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged. At present, there are 49,158 active cases in the state.

Further, during the day, 43 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 43 deceased, 07 are from Kamrup metro; 06 each from Cachar & Dibrugarh; 03 each from Nagaon & Sonitpur; 02 each from Karimganj, Sivasagar, Tinsukia & South Salmara; 01 each from Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Darrang, Dhubri, Goalpara, Hojai, Kamrup Rural, Karbi Anglong, Lakhimpur & Nalbari. The death tally of the state now stands at 3,738.
