Assam govt to give full salary to all its employees on 9 April

April 9: Assam government will be disbursing full salary to all its employees on 9 April, 2020. Earlier there was a discussion regarding deduction of 10 to 20 percent salary from the employees which would subsequently be reimbursed by the government with interest. But as of now, this idea of deduction of 10 or 20 percent salary has been shelved off. This was declared in a press conference by state Finance MInister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.

He added that only 1 day’s salary will be cut from all employees as donation towards relief fund, which is also a voluntary act and not a compulsion. However, if any employee does not want to give his/her 1-day salary, then that could be communicated to his DDO before sending the bill to the treasury.

Himanta further requested the employees to help atleast 5 poor families each after getting the salary. This may depend on the grade of the employees. A grade IV employee may help 3 families, whereas officers and bureaucrats can help 5 to 10 needy families. In this way, the employees can collectively help around 25 lakh needy families, said the minister.

Taking to twitter, the minister wrote, “While there was a discussion on possible deductions, we’ve decide to release full salary of Assam Govt employees for March. However, my humble request that in view of the lockdown, each one of you take care of at least 5 needy families. That will be best #Bihu gift you can give.”

Dr. Sarma further asserted that Assam government will be launching a portal Assam Cares very soon. Those employees extending help to 5 families can upload the pictures in that portal. The pictures can also be uploaded in mygov and NHM Assam portal.
