School & College students holds protest against Clause 6(A) of Assam Accord, writes to CM for implementation of 2015 Notification

September 19: In order to provide shelter to the Hindu, Buddhist, Christian, Jain & Persi refugees of Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan to India, the Central Government came up with a Gadget Notification on 7 September 2015, but surprisingly, the Gadget notification was not implemented. Moreover, efforts are on to implement Clause 6(A) of Assam Accord in the entire state, which is totally against the interest of the people of Barak Valley. These were the grievances highlighted by the students in a protest demonstration in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Cachar.

On Thursday, the students of Gurucharan College, Cachar College and Narsing Higher Secondary School, Silchar organised a joint protest against the implementation of Clause 6(A) of Assam Accord in Barak Valley and in context of the Governments failure in implementing the Joint Notification of September 2015 that provides legal security to the religiously persecuted refugees. With placards in their hands, the students raised slogans against Clause 6 and raised a strong demand to implement the Notification of 2015.

While speaking to newsmen, Subhasish Choudhury of Gurucharan College lashed upon the indifference and ignorance of the youth and other sections of the society regarding the implementation of Clause 6(A). He further said, “A section of intellectuals are opportunists who come out of their hibernation only at the morning of 19 May to promote themselves and never care to take to the streets in protest against the injustice done to the people of this Valley.”

A memorandum was also handed over to Laya Madduri, Deputy Commissioner, Cachar which was addressednto Chief Minister of Assam wherein they raised the issues of Clause-6 and 2015 Notification. They appealed to the Chief Minister to implement the two Notifications in the state of Assam so that lakhs of Hindus may be saved from being stateless. They also demanded that Barak Valley should be kept out of the ambit of Clause 6 as none from this valley was a party to the Assam Accord.

Apart from Subhasish Choudhury, the students who were also present during the protest demonstration included Rohit Chanda, Subhas Choudhury, Snehal Chakraborty, Nitish Tiwari among others.

It needs mention here that on 12 September, that a group of students from Gurucharan College, Silchar raised their voice of protest against Clause 6 of the Assam Accord. They demonstrated in front of the main gate of the college. Slogans were raised against ‘Clause 6’ which they regarded as against the interests of the people of this valley. A memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister was also handed over to the Executive Magistrate in the absence of the Deputy Commissioner for onward transmission.
