১৪ এপ্রিলঃ  লকডাউন ৩ মে পর্যন্ত বৃদ্ধির ঘোষণায় মহারাষ্ট্রের বান্দ্রা রেলস্টেশনে গিয়ে জড়ো হন শত শত শ্রমিক। তাদের কারও বাড়ি বিহার, কারও উত্তরপ্রদেশে। অন্যান্য রাজ্যের শ্রমিকদের সংখ্যাও কম নয়। দাবি করেন, তাঁদের বাড়ি ফেরার ব্যবস্থা করুক সরকার। নইলে খাবারের ব্যবস্থা করা হোক। তাঁদের হটাতে শেষে লাঠিচার্জ করে পুলিশ। তাতে বেশ কয়েকজন জখম হন।

মহারাষ্ট্রের স্বরাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী অনিল দেশমুখ বলেন, দেশের মুধ্যে মুম্বইয়েই পরিযায়ী শ্রমিকের সংখ্যা সবচেয়ে বেশি। আজ লকডাউন উঠলে বাড়ি ফিরতে পারবেন ভেবেছিলেন ওঁরা। কিন্তু লকডাউনের মেয়াদ বাড়়তেই অস্থির হয়ে ওঠেন তাঁরা।  তাঁর দাবি, ‘ওঁদের বোঝাতে পেরেছি যে, রাজ্যের সীমানা এখনও বন্ধ রয়েছে।’

April 14: Migrant workers in large numbers gathered at a bus stand in Mumbai on Tuesday afternoon demanding transport arrangements to go back to their native places, hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the nation-wide lockdown to contain the spread of coronavirus has been extended till May 3.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah called Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and expressed concern over the gathering, stressing such events weaken the country’s fight against the coronavirus and the administration needs to stay vigilant to avoid such incidents. He also offered his full support to the state government.

“Lakhs of workers from other states work in Mumbai. They expected the PM would open the state borders today. They felt they could go back to their home states,” said Home Minister Anil Deshmukh. The migrants were assured that the state government will make arrangement of food and accommodation for them, following which the crowds dispersed, he said.
