Covid patients die mostly due to presence of comorbidities, says Audit Committee in Cachar

May 20: A meeting of the Covid Death Audit Committee meeting was held on Thursday which was chaired by the Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli. After a threadbare discussion, some observations were noted by the Audit Committee.

It was noted that a large number of people detected as Covid-19 positive and who died subsequently due to the presence of comorbidities. These persons were usually of advanced age and have been suffering with mild fever for preceding week or past 10 days. They come to the hospital when the complexities become grave and their oxygen level falls below the normal range.

If their oxygen level goed down below 94, they should straight away report to hospital and avail proper treatment. Also, the committee requested the public in general not to rely merely on paracetamol tablets. This should especially be kept in mind by those Covid patients with  comorbidities. Such patients were asked to get admitted in Covid Care Centres and to be under the supervision of the doctors.

The Covid Death Audit Committee further informed that Covid patients may also make use of the tele-consultation facility for immediate consultation and medical advice. But in case of complications, it is always advisable to visit the hospitals at the earliest. It was opined that early detection, isolation and supervision are the only tools at the disposal at present.

The meeting was also attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner, District Joint Director of Health Services, Principal & Superintendent of Silchar Medical College & Hospital, Superintendent &his Deputy of SM Dev Civil Hospital, DSO (IDSP) & DPM, NHM among others.
