Youths of Sonai Congress burns effigy of MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha
April 18: Controversy seems to have engulfed Assam Congress from all sides. Once again, MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha’s effigy was burnt by youths belonging to his own party. As per reports, MLA Dey Purkayastha, Working President of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) was invited to an Iftar Party in a hotel at Dakkhin Mohanpur area of Sonai constituency in Cachar.
However, some youths belonging to the Congress party got this information and reached there and raised a voice of protest against Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha. Slogans were raised by the youths against him. The agitating youths said, “Kamalakhya has been involved in anti-party activities and is working as an agent of the BJP. We won’t allow him to enter Sonai constituency.” Later on, they also burnt an effigy of Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha.
It needs mention here that a few days ago, the effigy of Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha was burnt inside Silchar Congress Office. It was alleged that the MLA of North Karimganj played a negative role during the recently concluded Rajya Sabha elections in which the Congress candidate Ripun Bora faced defeat.
