Border flare: Cachar Forest Division files offence report in CJM court against SP Kolasib

July 17: The border dispute between Assam & Mizoram has again flared up. It is in this connection that Cachar Forest Division, Silchar has filed an offence report before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court, Silchar against the Superintendent of Police, Kolasib, Officer of 22-Bn CRPF and Mizo IR battalion under various Sections of Assam Forest Regulation (AFR), 1891 amended upto 1995.

May be an image of tree and natureThe sections of AFR, 1891 (amended till 1995) under which the offence report was filed by the Cachar Forest Division, Silchar are Section 24 (a): trespass in the Reserved Forest (RF), 25 (a): prohibited to make any fresh clearing in the RF, Section 25 (d): fells, cuts, girdle, marks, lops or injuries by the fire or otherwise any tree, Section 25(f): clears or breaks up and land for cultivation or any other purpose and Section 59: counterfeiting or defacing, altering boundary marks.

Taking to its official Facebook Page, Cachar Forest Division, Silchar informed that if convicted, the alleged accused shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which is not less than three years and may extend to seven years or with fine which is not less than five thousand rupees or with both.

Meanwhile, Cachar Forest Division, Silchar also informed that it has been using drones with satisfactory results to monitor large scale plantation raised under CAMPA, stone & sand mining area, encroachment area and border dispute areas.
