Assam Univ: Beaker full of chemical falls & blasts in Chemistry lab, 4 students injured
আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের রসায়ন বিভাগে বিস্ফোরণ, ৪ পড়ুয়া জখম

১১ মার্চ: আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের রসায়ন বিভাগে বিস্ফোরণ৷ বুধবার বেলা ১২টা নাগাদ আচমকা এই ঘটনা ঘটে৷ জখম হয়েছেন ৪ পড়ুয়া৷ তাদের মধ্যে দীপাশা সেনগুপ্তের চোট গুরুতর৷ তাঁকে গুয়াহাটি নিয়ে যাওয়া হচ্ছে৷ সেখানকার শংকরদেব নেত্রালয়ে চিকিৎসা করানো হবে৷

আরও ৩ ছাত্রকে শিলচর মেডিক্যাল কলেজ হাসপাতালে চিকিৎসা করা হয়৷ তন্ময় সাহা ও সৌরভ পালকে অবশ্য বাড়ি যেতে দেওয়া হয়৷ পঞ্চতপা সেন এখনও মেডিক্যালে চিকিৎসাধীন৷ দীপাশা সহ চারজনই বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের রসায়ন বিভাগের পরীক্ষাগারে কাজ করছিল৷ তখনই এই বিস্ফোরণ ঘটে৷ কী করে এটা ঘটল, এখনও স্পষ্ট করে কেউ কিছু বলতে পারছেন না৷ একাংশ পড়ুয়া জানান, দীপাশার হাত থেকে রসায়ন পদার্থ ভর্তি কাঁচের পাত্র পড়ে যেতেই বিপত্তি বাঁধে৷ আরেক অংশের বক্তব্য, দুটো রাসায়নিক পদার্থ সম্ভবত কারও অসতর্কতায় মিশে গিয়েছিল৷ তাতেই বিস্ফোরণ ঘটে৷

বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ভারপ্রাপ্ত রেজিস্ট্রার প্রদোষকিরণ নাথ ঘটনার সত্যতা স্বীকার করেন৷ তবে কী করে তা ঘটল, তা এখনই জানাতে পারছেন না তিনি৷

March 11: In a tragic incident, a blast was reported to have occurred in the laboratory of the Department of Chemistry in Assam University, Silchar. The blast was reported to have taken place at around 12 noon on Wednesday in which 4 students were injured.

All of them were immediately rushed to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH). Out of the four injured, the condition of one student was critical who was referred to Guwahati for better treatment. The severely injured student was identified as Dipasa Sengupta. It was learnt that Dipasa was at once sent by an ambulance to Shankar Netralaya, Guwahati.

Sources revealed that the students were doing experiment in the Chemistry lab when all of a sudden a beaker containing certain hazardous chemical fall from the hands of Dipasa and immediately a blast occurred. As she was in close proximity to the blast, the chemical splashed on her face and eyes causing maximum injury to her.

The other three students who also were injured are Panchatapa Sen, Tanmoy Saha and Sourav Paul. They were also rushed to SMCH and have sustained minor injury. However, Tanmoy Saha and Sourav Paul were released after primary treatment, whereas Panchatapa Sen was admitted at SMCH.

Commenting on the incident, Dr. Prodush Kiran Nath, Registrar in-charge of Assam University, Silchar confirmed the incident but was not in a position at that moment to brief about the details of the incident.
