With spike in Covid cases, serpentine queue noticed at vaccine centres in Silchar
April 22: With thee spike in the number of coronavirus cases in the country, the government has put special emphasises on vaccinating the populace. In Assam too, the state government has placed order for purchase of more vaccines. Many people were seen to be reluctant in taking the vaccine in the 1st and the 2nd phase. However, with spike in the number of coronavirus cases, long queue could now be noticed in almost all vaccination centres in the state.
Since the last few days, a similar sight of long queues were also noticed at different vaccination centres in Silchar. At SM Dev Civil Hospital, Silchar, ignoring the scorching heat, serpentine queue was noticed on Thursday, which included people in the age group of 45 and above. They waited for long hours in the sun for their turn.
Taking to his twitter handle about the vaccine status in Assam, State Health Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “COVID-19 vaccine and coverage status of Assam– Total doses administered till date 18,91,527; 1st dose 15,03,414, 2nd dose 3,88,113. Citizens vaccinated today 68,132. Total vaccines available in stock 2,64,730.
