With 99 more Covid-19 +ve cases, day’s total in Cachar rises to 312 on 8 May; 1 death at SMCH

May 8: The District Health Department of Cachar updated the Covid-19 data of Saturday at 10.20 PM. As per the latest data, 99 more persons were detected as coronavirus positive during the day. With this, a total of 312 persons were found positive in the district on 8 May, the highest single day spike this year. Earlier, at 6 PM, it was informed that 213 persons were found positive. With this, the number of active cases in Cachar has now gone up to 981. It needs mention here that the total number of positive cases detected on Friday was 198.

As per the updated data, a total of 2,631 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) were done, out of which, a total of 198 persons were found positive in Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), whereas 114 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Dr. Ibrahim Ali Ahmed, District Surveillance Officer (DSO), IDSP, Cachar on Saturday night. With this, the total number of Covid cases in 2021 reached 2,545 in 2021, whereas during the year, 1,545 patients were discharged.

Apart from This Dr. Ibrahim Ali Ahmed informed that out of the 981 active patients:

• 162 of them are admitted at SMCH
• 11 in MH
• 08 at SMDCH
• 34 at Green Heals Pvt Hospital
• 10 at CRPF Doyapur
• 21 at Gracewell Nursing Home
• 10 at Cachar Cancer Hospital
• 725 patients are in home isolation.

The death of Covid-19 positive patients is continuing in Cachar. On Saturday, the district witnessed another such death. A 60 year old male Mahibur Rahaman Barbhuiyan from Panchayat Road in Silchar was suffering from cough and sob for last 4 days. He was also diabetic & hypertensive and was on medications when admitted at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) on 3 May.

Mahibur Rahaman Barbhuiyan was diagnosed to be a case of Covid pneumonia. Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert informed that the patient presented with Sp o 2 of 63 % on oxygen was initially admitted in ward but later shifted to ICU.  He had to be put on Non invasive ventilator on being unable to maintain oxygen and had to be intubated today and put on mechanical ventilator. However, all efforts to save him failed and ultimately, he expired at 6.00 pm on 8 May.

As per protocol, the death details were  forwarded to the State Death Audit Board in Guwahati for final certification of Covid or non-Covid death.
