With 19 awards to their credit, Silchar Inner Wheel Club adjudged as the best in District 324

June 30: It is indeed a matter of immense honour for Inner Wheel Club of Silchar to be able to retain the crown of the best club in Rotary District 324. The Silchar Inner Wheel Club has bagged a total of 19 awards in various categories during the current year. In a press briefing organised on Monday, the tale of success was upholded by the members of the Club.

Expressing joy at the achievement, Jhumki Saha, President of Inner Wheel club, Silchar said, “It is a memorable moment for us to put on record the magnificent achievement of our Club. 19 awards definitely means a feather in the cap of Inner Wheel. I would take this opportunity to thank all who help us achieve this feat. First of all, I would express my thanks to all my club members. For this marvellous achievement, I express my heartfelt thanks to Rotary Club of Silchar. The sponsors by whose magnanimity we could organise numerous events deserve special thanks. Media has also been so kind to cover all our programmes and so I convey my thanks to them. Last but not the least, I offer my sincere thanks to my husband Debasish Saha and all my family members for their understanding and support they provided to me during the whole year.”

Informing about the details of 19 awards received by Inner Wheel Club of Silchar, Sumita Som, Chairman of District-324 said, “Though I represent all the clubs under District 324, yet the grand achievement of Silchar Inner Wheel Club gives me immense joy and satisfaction. This would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of all the club members.” She even informed that the Inner Wheel Club of Silchar has earned the laurel of Platinum Club.

While mentioning the 19 different categories in which Silchar Inner Wheel Club got awards, she said, “The 19 awards were achieved by the hard working members of this club in Joint project, District Conference done by Silchar Inner Wheel Club, Clean Green Club (planted saplings in a divider at Rongpur), Ban plastic (they have done awareness programme, distributed cloth bags at markets & made a video to spread consciousness), Adoption of village (village was adopted at Atal Basti in Ghungoor). Further, the Silchar Inner Wheel Club did development works in 3 schools. Work has been completed in 2 schools and pending work going on in 1 school, which will also be completed soon. For achievement in this category, they also got cash award.

Sumita Som further said, “The club cleared all their dues in time and did proper reporting from time to time. They have also inducted 9 new members in their ambit. So they have got another award for this purpose. They have also sponsored a club named- New Zen Club of Silchar Titans. In the entire District 324, we were able to come up with 4 such sponsored clubs, for which they have won another award. Another project related to orphans named ‘Mission Mamta’ was also undertaken by them. The Silchar club has adopted a small child from Holy Cross whose entire expenditure for 3 years was borne by Inner Wheel Club of Silchar.”

Apart from these, the next category in which they received award is Inner Wheel Park. The IWC of Silchar has made a small park in this connection. Sumita Som further informed that, “As regards empowering of women, they have done a lot of work like vocational training, beauty parlour courses etc. So they have won another award in this category. We have another continuous project of providing drinking water. They have got some wells dug in the outskirts of the town and are also involved in its maintenance. For all these achievements, Inner Wheel Club of Silchar earned the title of Platinum Club and for this I thank the Club President Jhumki Saha. I would mention another award of Prompt Treasurer which goes to Kalita Ghosh. Jhumki also got the award of energetic President. Similarly Ankita Ghosh got the special award of Enthusiastic Secretary.”

Apart from Jhumki Saha and Sumita Som, others who were present in the press meet on behalf of Inner Wheel Club of Silchar were its Secretary Ankita Ghosh, Editor Minu Choudhury, District Editor Anindita Pal, Treasurer Kalita Ghosh, CLSC Shilpi Ghosh and Member Moumita Gupta.
