Tamal Banik, Misbaul Islam, Ajit Singh & Kamakhya Mala of Congress files nomination on Thursday

March 11: Amidst cheering of a huge crowd, Congress candidates Tamal Kanti Banik, Misbaul Islam Laskar, Ajit Singh and Kamakhya Prasad Mala filed nomination on Thursday. Earlier during the day, Congress candidate from Silchar Tamal Kanti Banik, Borkhola’s Misbaul Islam Laskar accompanied by former Silchar MP and President of All India Mahila Congress- Susmita Dev, District Congress President Pradip Kr Dey offered floral tributes to the language martyrs at District Congress Office and set out on foot followed by huge supporters.

No description available.Tamal Kanti Banik was the first candidate to reach the office of the Deputy Commissioner on Thursday. Along with Congress party members, many party cadres of the left also accompanied Mr Banik. However, the aspect which could be noticed was the presence of many apolitical citizens along with him. Tamal Banik accompanied by his wife Sampa Banik and Sushmita Dev went inside the office of the Deputy Commissioner together amidst loud slogans of his supporters. He handed over the nomination papers to Keerthi Jalli, District Magistrate cum Returning Officer, Cachar.

Later on, speaking to journalists, Tamal Kanti Banik said, “First of all, I would like to congratulate my party and all my supporters for depositing their trust in me. As an inhabitant of Silchar, like many others, I too have a dream of beautification of my beloved town. I have a firm conviction that hard work and dedication will definitely enable to reach towards the goal of making Silchar the best place. I will try my best to work out a viable solution for easing the traffic problem of Silchar. The poor health facilities at Silchar Medical College and Hospital is one such area where I like to put much emphasis.”

Apart from this, many burning issues like improving the drainage system and keeping Silchar clean will be my topmost priority,” added Mr. Banik

Tamal Banik in a candid way said, “I have dreams in my eyes to make Silchar enriched in all its aspects and for this I earnestly seek the cooperation of all. Together we can be the catalyst of change and make our place a much better place to live.” Mr Banik then visited the office of Silchar Municipal Board (SMB). He sat on the ground and offered salutation (pranam) at the main gate of SMB from where he started his political career.

Later during the day, Misbaul Islam Laskar, Ajit Singh and Kamakhya Prasad Mala also filed their nomination. Speaking to the media both Misbaul Islam and Ajit Singh expressed confidence of winning the poll battle and assured to work for the development of their constituencies. All the three districts of Barak Valley will go for the polls on 1 April, 2021 and the results will be declared on 2 May, 2021.
