We’re provided relief by college management & not by govt, allege refugees at Ramanuj College

June 28: Cachar district is witnessing one of the greatest disaster since 20 June, 2022. Flood water from river Barak entered Silchar through the breach at Bethukandi in Berenga and inundated almost all parts of the town. Since then, the district administration announced that all institutions, both public and private to be converted into relief camps. As such, on Monday, around 30 families took refuge at Ramanuj Gupta College in Ambicapatty, Silchar.

So when did they actually come to Ramanuj College? Responding to this, the flood victims stated, “We are a total of 30 families who have taken shelter over here at Ramanuj College, out of which, 4 families are from Bhakatpur, whereas, the rest are from Ashram Road. Infact, we came over to Adharchand HS School when our houses were flooded. However, when Adharchand too was flooded, we came and took shelter at Ramanuj.”

When asked about the relief materials provided to them by district administration, the flood victims told, “We were not provided any relief till now (27 June, 2022) from the govt. Whatever we got was given by Rudra Sir (Rudra Narayan Gupta, MD of Ramanuj). Rudra has also provided us electric connection, light, fan, mosquito coils, candle and even food materials. Even we were provided electricity through generator, when there was no current. Also, we were fed ‘khichri’ by 2 private organisations twice. But we have not received even a drop of relief from the government.”
