Welcome step: Book & cloth bank inaugurated in Silchar for poor & destitute

Dec. 23: A book bank and cloth bank was inaugurated in the premises of Silchar Municipality for the use of the destitute and poor people of the town. On Thursday, Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli after inaugurating the Book Bank and Cloth Bank said, “This endeavour has been undertaken for the marginalised children. I urge upon the people to donate books and clothes.” She further emphasised on the aspect of recycling products which can be reused.

“The District administration and Silchar Municipality are working together to create awareness among the people in various ways to create a transparent and beautiful Silchar. Ground inspections revealed that they contained recyclable materials in the 30/40 year old waste, which can be recycled by machine processing. It’s not like throwing away stuff, everyone wants clothes and books; With this in mind, Cloth Bank and Book Bank were inaugurated in Silchar Municipality today and ordinary citizens can come here and donate to Cloth Bank and Book Bank,” mentioned DC Jalli. Deputy Commissioner also appealed to the people of the city to dispose of old books and clothes and recycle them for the benefit of the poor and destitute families of the city.

Earlier, Executive Officer of Silchar Municipal Board, Jessica Lalsim explained the objectives and purpose of the function and said that the Cloth Bank and Book Bank have been opened as per the advice of Deputy Commissioner. Later,Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli , Executive officer, Silchar Municipal Board Jessica Lalsim, officials and citizens also donated old clothes and books in the cloth bank and book bank on the occasion.
