Water logging: What has ex-SMB Chairman & ex-MLA from Ward 22 done for so many years, asks Dipayan Chakraborty
DC Cachar along with MLA Silchar went out to inspect the drains of the town
July 26: The problem of water logging is not new. Pointing fingers at former Municipal Chairperson, Tamal Kanti Banik and former MLA Dilip Kumar Paul, Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty on Monday said, “Both of them are the residents of this ward (No 22 at Ambicapatty point). But what have they done all these years? Why have they not been able to do away with illegal encroachments? I urge you to give up dirty politics and work for the sake of the people. Our government is doing its best to solve this problem.”
“Light spell of rain in Silchar town, creates havoc in terms of water logging as maximum of the city drains are either clogged or encroached by the population. The work of clearing the depositions and silts from the drains are going on in full pace and anyone trying to obstruct the process will be dealt as per law,” said Cachar Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli. She was visiting various wards of Silchar Municipality along with Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakrabarty on Monday. Jalli inspected the progress of work on culverts and drains. The team also visited the Ambicapatty Chourangi point, where an incomplete culvert work has added to the woes of the local people. The Deputy Commissioner expressed strong dissatisfaction over the delay in the work and warned of change in the contractor, if work is not expedited.
While sharing her reaction Keerthi Jalli also said, “The design will also be examined by a committee of engineers who will also review whether the work is progressing in a scientific manner or not. If the work is not completed within a month than the current contractor will be terminated and work will be re-tendered”. However, DC Jalli maintained throughout the visit, appealing to the local people, that progress is possible, only if the people wholeheartedly cooperate with the District Administration and come forward to mitigate the woes. DC requested everyone not to dump waste in drains.
Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakrabarty asked the officials to expedite the work as people of the locality are suffering due to this for long. After hearing various complaints from the locals, MLA urged everyone to keep faith over him and Silchar MP Dr. Rajdeep Roy who are tirelessly giving efforts to get the issue solved. Chief Executive Officer of Silchar Municipality Jessica Lalsim, BJP leader Bijendra Prasad Singh along with the concerned municipal authorities, concerned contractors and various local persons were present on the occasion.
