Violation of conduct rules! Assam University serves show cause notice to Anindya Sen

August 18: In connection with a Facebook Post, an FIR was lodged against Anindya Sen, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Assam University, Silchar on 8 August. The case No. 2424/2020 was registered under section 294/295(A)/501 IPC and relevant section 67 of Information Technology Act. However, now, a show cause notice was served to Mr. Anindya Sen by Assam University on 18 August.

As per sources, the show cause notice was issued by the Registrar in-charge wherein it was stated that Mr. Anindya Sen has violated the conduct rules of Assam University. Further, it was also stated that as per reports, Mr. Sen has hurt the sentiments of belief by giving objectionable post in social media, which was pointed out as against the ‘ethos of the constitution.’ The show cause letter alleged violation of law of the land and also the conduct rules by him.

In the said show cause letter, Assam University authority also stated that Mr. Anindya Sen by his act has tried to create a rift among the people and thereby disrupt peace in the society. He was asked to reply why his act should not be held liable for taking disciplinary proceedings for violation of conduct rules by the varsity. He was asked to submit his reply by 2 PM on 25 August, 2020, failing which, ex-parte decision will be taken by Assam University in this regard.

When contacted, Registrar-in-charge, Dr. Prodush Kiran Nath accepted the fact that a show cause notice was served to Mr. Anindya Sen. He, however, refused to divulge any details on this matter.

Meanwhile, a section of the students of Assam University, Silchar submitted a memorandum to the Vice Chancellor on 10 August, wherein they demanded an inquiry committee to be set up for proper investigation against Anindya Sen. They also demanded suspension of Mr. Anindya Sen from the post of Assistant Professor.
