Vegetable vendor dies being electrocuted while putting up banner of PM Modi

৩ জানুয়ারিঃ বিদ্যুৎষ্পৃষ্ট হয়ে শিলচরের চিত্তরঞ্জন অ্যাভেন্যু বাজারে একজনের মৃত্যু হয়েছে। নিহতের নাম মনতোষ দাস। মূলবাড়ি করিমগঞ্জ জেলার ফাকোয়ায় হলেও অনেকদিন ন্যাশনাল হাইওয়েতে ভাড়া থাকেন। ২৫ বছরের মনতোষ বাজারে সবজি বিক্রি করেন।

প্রধানমন্ত্রী নরেন্দ্র মোদির শিলচর আগমন উপলক্ষে বৃহস্পতিবার বেলা সাড়ে ১১টা নাগাদ ব্যানার লাগানো হচ্ছিল বাজারের সামনে। খুঁটি পুঁতে বিশাল ব্যানার লাগানোর কাজে দলীয় কর্মীদের সঙ্গে তিনিও হাত লাগান। আচমকা সেই খুঁটি বিদ্যুত পরিবাহী তারের সংস্পর্শে চলে এলে তিনজন ছিটকে পড়েন।

বাজারের ব্যবসায়ীরা দ্রুত তাদের উদ্ধার করে চিকিতসার জন্য নিয়ে যান। শিলচর মেডিক্যাল কলেজ হাসপাতালে পৌঁছনোর পর ডাক্তাররা মনতোষকে মৃত বলে ঘোষণা করেন। আরেক ব্যবসায়ী বোলন সাহা ভ্যালি হাসপাতালে চিকিতসাধীন। আরেকজনকে প্রাথমিক চিকিতসার পর ছেড়ে দেওয়া হয়। আরও দুয়েকজন দলীয় কর্মী সামান্য জখম হয়েছেন বলে জানা গিয়েছে।

মনতোষের মৃত্যুসংবাদ বাড়িতে পৌঁছতেই কান্নায় ভেঙে পড়েন সবাই। তাঁর বৃদ্ধা মাকে অবশ্য এখনও তা জানানো হয়নি। তিনি সেই দুঃসংবাদ কীভাবে সহ্য করবেন, এ নিয়ে দুশ্চিন্তায় ঘনিষ্টজনেরা। একইসঙ্গে পরিবারটি কী করে চলবে, এ নিয়েও উদ্বেগে। কারণ মনতোষই ছিলেন মূল উপার্জনকারী সদস্য। মোদির ব্যানার লাগাতে মৃত্যু হওয়ায় তাঁরা এখন স্থানীয় মোদিভক্তদের দিকে তাকিয়ে। কেন্দ্র-রাজ্যের শাসক দলটিই এখন তাদের প্রধান ভরসা।

January 3: In a tragic incident, a vegetable vendor died after being electrocuted at Chittaranjan Avenue market (National Highway market, Silchar) on Thursday morning. The deceased was identified as Monotosh Das, who hailed from Fakowa in Karimganj district. The 25-year old Monotosh used to sell vegetables in that market.

To mark the arrival of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, work was on for fixing a banner near the National Highway market at around 11 AM today. Party workers, accompanied by local vegetable vendors were engaged in the work of putting up a huge banner by fixing a pole over there. All of a sudden, that pole came in contact with the overhead electric wire. Immediately, three of them fell on the ground. Other nearby vendors of the market rescued them.

Monotosh was in a critical condition and was rushed to Silchar Medical College and Hospital where the doctors declared him dead. Another vendor Bolen Saha was admitted at Valley Nursing Home. The third injured was left after giving first aid. Most probably, this third man was engaged in the task of putting up the banner of PM Modi.
