US Presidential race: Joe Biden moves closer to the 270 magic figure

Nov. 5: Democrat Joe Biden edged closer to victory in the US presidential race on Thursday as election officials tallied votes in the handful of states that will determine the outcome. Biden moved to needing just six more Electoral College votes to win after taking the swing state of Michigan. Meanwhile, even if Biden ended up losing Nevada, Trump would still need to win Georgia, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania to pip him to the post.

Biden held 264 Electoral College votes out of the 270 needed to win the White House, Trump has 214. The former vice president Joe Biden said he expects to prevail. “I’m not here to declare that we’ve won, but I am here to report that when the count is finished, we believe we will be the winners.”

Meanwhile, a crowd of Donald Trump supporters, some armed with rifles and handguns, gathered outside an election center in Arizona on Wednesday night after unsubstantiated rumors that votes for the Republican president were deliberately not being counted.
