Unruly behaviour of COVID-19 patients at Silchar Medical College, some try to escape

June 5: Seven COVID-19 positive patients are creating ruckus at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). On Thursday night, these 7 youths tried to come out from the COVID ward on the pretext of various issues. Another 5 attempted to get out of the ward on Friday morning The security personnel then intervened and sent them back inside their ward. Sharing this information during routine press briefing on Friday, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH said, “If these patients again repeat such type of unruly behaviour, then we will lodge a complaint with the police. We have already informed the police to keep a watch so that no patient can create any such nuisance.”

Dr. Gupta further told that these unruly patients are young boys who are asymptomatic and so they don’t have any physical problems, so they try to walk out and create nuisance. These are youths who have come from hotspot areas in Mumbai, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal etc. Being asymptomatic, one cannot just ascribe them as patients. However, they are corona positive patients. These youths always keeps on demanding this and that. Dr. Gupta said that such type of patients form a group inside the ward and jointly harass the health workers.

Further, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH during the routine press briefing provided the data of COVID-19 cases of the district. In the last 24 hours, 1291 samples were tested at SMCH and report of 27 were positive. Till now, SMCH has tested 12,908 samples, out of which 261 were positive. At present, 62 active patients are admitted at SMCH, which comprises of 56 male, 03 women & 03 children. In the last 24 hours, 01 patient was discharged from SMCH. The discharged patient is a 12 years old boy, Ainul Haque Barbhuiya. A total of 134 patients were admitted at SMCH, out of which 71 were discharged and 62 are active. Till now, 01 patient has died due to COVID-19 at Silchar Medical College & Hospital.
