বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়গুলির মূল দায়িত্ব হওয়া উচিত সামাজিক দায়বদ্ধতা : পন্থ

ওয়ে টু বরাক, ২৫ ডিসেম্বর : ‘বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় শুধুমাত্র উচ্চশিক্ষার কেন্দ্র নয়, বরং সমাজ পরিবর্তনের অন্যতম চালিকাশক্তি’। এ মন্তব্য করেছেন আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক রাজীব মোহন পন্থ। গত মঙ্গলবার পাটনায় অ্যাসোসিয়েশন অব ইন্ডিয়ান ইউনিভার্সিটিজের শতবর্ষ উদযাপন উপলক্ষে আয়োজিত পূর্বাঞ্চলীয় উপাচার্য সম্মেলনে বক্তব্য রাখছিলেন তিনি।

গত ২২ ও ২৩ ডিসেম্বর পাটনায় দু’দিনের এই সম্মেলন আয়োজিত হয়। সম্মেলনের এক গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অধিবেশনে পৌরোহিত্য করেন উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক পন্থ। এতে বক্তব্য রাখতে গিয়ে তিনি বলেন, গবেষণা, পাঠদান ও সম্প্রসারণমূলক কার্যক্রমকে সময়ের জরুরি সামাজিক ইস্যুর সঙ্গে সামঞ্জস্যপূর্ণ করতে হবে। জলবায়ু সহনশীলতা, গ্রামীণ স্বাস্থ্যসেবা, ডিজিটাল অন্তর্ভুক্তির মতো বিষয়গুলোকে অগ্রাধিকার দিয়ে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়গুলিকে সমাজের প্রতি তাদের দায়িত্ব পালন করতে হবে।

অধ্যাপক পন্থ আরও বলেন, ‘এআইইউ-এর ১০০ বছরের গৌরবময় যাত্রা উদযাপনের এই সময়ে সামাজিক দায়বদ্ধতার প্রতি আমাদের অঙ্গীকার ভবিষ্যৎ প্রজন্মের প্রতি সম্মিলিত প্রয়াসের নিদর্শন।’ পূর্বাঞ্চলীয় এই উপাচার্য সম্মেলনে বিহার, ঝাড়খণ্ড, ওডিশা, পশ্চিমবঙ্গ, আসাম ও উত্তর-পূর্বাঞ্চলের বিভিন্ন রাজ্যের উপাচার্য, রেক্টর এবং বিশিষ্ট শিক্ষাবিদরা অংশগ্রহণ করেন।

আলোচনায় পাঠ্যক্রমে সামাজিক দায়বদ্ধতা অন্তর্ভুক্তকরণ, গবেষণার অগ্রাধিকার নির্ধারণ এবং ক্যাম্পাস পরিচালনায় সামাজিক ও পরিবেশগত দায়িত্ব পালনের বিভিন্ন কাঠামো তুলে ধরা হয়। সম্মেলনে আলোচিত অন্য গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বিষয়গুলির মধ্যে ছিল জাতীয় শিক্ষানীতি (এনইপি) ২০২০ বাস্তবায়ন, আঞ্চলিক সহযোগিতা জোরদার করা এবং শিল্প-শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠান সংযোগ আরও সুদৃঢ় করা ইত্যাদি।

Way2barak, December 25 : Emphasising the evolving role of higher education institutions, Assam University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant said that universities are not merely centres of higher learning but also key drivers of social transformation. Prof. Pant was speaking at the East Zone Vice Chancellors’ Meet organised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) in Patna as part of its centenary celebrations.

The two-day conference was held on December 22 and 23, during which Prof. Pant chaired an important academic session. Addressing the gathering, he stressed that research, teaching and extension activities of universities must be aligned with pressing social issues of the time. He highlighted areas such as climate resilience, rural healthcare and digital inclusion as priority domains through which universities can fulfil their social responsibilities.

Referring to AIU’s 100-year journey, Prof. Pant remarked that the renewed commitment to social responsibility reflects a collective effort towards building a better future for coming generations. The conference witnessed the participation of vice-chancellors, rectors and senior academicians from Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Assam and other northeastern states.

Deliberations focused on integrating social responsibility into curricula, setting research priorities, and adopting frameworks for social and environmental responsibility in campus governance. Other key issues discussed included the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, strengthening regional cooperation, and further reinforcing industry–academia linkages.
