Truck driver from Karimganj killed in Meghalaya, 1 arrested

Aug. 16: In an unfortunate incident, a truck driver identified as Alok Das (45) from Duhalia village in Karimganj district of Assam was brutally killed in West Jaintia Hills in Meghalaya. As per reports, Alok Das was sleeping inside the vehicle parked outside a Food Corporation of India (FCI) godown in Ummulong when the incident happened. After killing him, the miscreants fled away with the truckload of 500 bags of Public Distribution System (PDS) rice. 

An FIR in this connection was also lodged in this connection by the transport company whose vehicle was driven by Alok Das. Later on, a person has been arrested by West Jaintia Police on charges of his involvement in the driver’s killing. The driver’s body was also recovered from a gorge. As per sources, two unidentified people, who came in a Maruti Alto car, snatched the truck (TR 01-AG-1689) and killed the driver Alok Das. Meanwhile, police is interrogating the arrested accused to nab his accomplice.

Dipankar Dey, President of the local Gaon Panchayat where the deceased lived appealed to the Police Super of Karimganj to conduct a proper investigation of the murder. After post-mortem, the body was sent for his home and is expected to reach on Tuesday morning. The deceased truck driver Alok Das is survived by his wife and two kids.
