Zubeen hugs Sonowal, pics goes viral, netizens wonders sudden shift of stand

February 17: It is well known to all that in politics there is no permanent foe or friend. But now it seems that the same logic is applicable in other arenas of life. A front rank supporter of Anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), famous singer Zubeen Garg took to the streets and roared against the Act in the recent past. It took all by surprise when Zubeen, who has been criticising the Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal in his speeches during the anti-CAA agitation rallies, was seen with Sonowal.

The pictures of the popular singer with Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal sparked widespread reactions among the netizens. Time  and again, Zubeen has exhorted Sonowal to reconsider his stand on the CAA, although the CM refused to deviate from the party’s stand on the issue. Now, Zubeen, who recently joined the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) leaders in protests, finally met Sonowal face to face.

Zubeen met CM Sonowal on the sidelines of the 65th Filmfare Awards held in Guwahati on 15 February, 2020. In a series of photographs, the singer is seen greeting Sonowal in presence of other BJP-AGP leaders. In due course of the conversation, the singer went ahead and hugged Sonowal.

Even a few days ago, Zubeen had accused Sonowal of betraying the people of Assam by maintaining “stoic silence” and “surrendering to the BJP” over the CAA. Netizens were perplexed at this sudden shift of stand. Some criticized the singer and called it a ‘sheer drama’ while others reacted with shocking emojis. Zubeen, however, maintained that his fight is against the CAA and it has “nothing to do with the award ceremony or other sports events” organized in Assam.
