To arrest spread of COVID-19 disease: Hailakandi administration to restart door-to-door delivery of items
uly 9: The Hailakandi district administration will restart delivery of vegetables, fish and other items at the doorstep of the people from Monday onwards. Disclosing this, Deputy Commissioner, Hailakandi, Megh Nidhi Dahal said the decision to restart door-to-door delivery of vegetables and other items in both urban and rural areas has been taken in the wake of closure of weekly and evening bazaars to prevent people from gathering in view of detection of COVID-19 positive cases in the community sans travel history.
The decision to close weekly as well as evening markets has been taken by the administration to prevent gatherings and to safeguard the people from the highly contagious disease, he said. The administration is mulling to shut down more shops and bazaars on Monday to prevent gatherings in view of spike in number of COVID-19 cases in recent times.
Dahal said those who were selling vegetables and other foodstuff in the weekly or evening markets can now do so by delivering such items at the doorstep of the people. He, however, cautioned them not to hike prices abnormally and to wear masks and maintain social distancing. It may be mentioned that the district administration made arrangements for door-to-door delivery of vegetables, fish, chicken and other items during the lockdown phase and this move earned encomiums from the people at large.
