U-turn by Patanjali on corona medicine, says never claimed coronil can cure COVID-19
July 1: Patanjali Ayurved on 23 June launched ‘corolin tablet’ in presence of Baba Ramdev and Acharya Balakrishna which claimed to have constituents to cure coronavirus. Patanjali has also said that the trail of the medicine was conducted on 280 patients and all were recovered. However, after Patanjali Ayurved Limited faced sharp criticism and government’s scrutiny for launching ‘Coronil’, a drug it claimed can cure Coronavirus, the company’s CEO on Tuesday said that they never claimed that the drug “can cure or control coronavirus”.
Acharya Balkrishna, CEO Patanjali said, “We never said the medicine (coronil) can cure or control corona, we said that we had made medicines and used them in clinical controlled trial which cured corona patients. There is no confusion in it.” The shift in the statement comes after an FIR was filed in Jaipur against yoga guru Ramdev, Patanjali CEO Acharya Balkrishna and four others for “misleading” people by propagating Patanjali Ayurved’s drug Coronil as a cure for the infection.
Hours after the launch of the medicine, Uttarakhand Ayush Ministry had issued notice to Patanjali saying that the licence issued was not to find a cure for coronavirus. The license was issued only for the production of immunity booster kits and fever medicine. During the launch, Baba Ramdev had said that patients can be cured in just one week with the use of ‘coronil’ medicine, adding that it increases immunity power. Patanjali Yogpeeth has also said that the ‘coronil’ medicine will be available all over the country by next week.
