There is no such decision of closure of DD Silchar: PIB Fact Check
Oct. 2: There was a news report in print, electronic and digital media a few days ago about a claim that Doordarshan Kendra (DDK), Silchar. The said report claimed that DD Silchar will soon shut down. Following this news, there were series of protests by various sections of the civil society. However, this was denied by the Union government.
Taking to its twitter handle, Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check on 1 October, 2021 clarified that “There is no such decision to close DD Silchar. PIB rather stated that DD Silchar shall continue to generate programme content for broadcasting on DD Assam.

Earlier on 26 September, 2021, Sashi J, CEO Prasar Bharati (Doordarshan & All India Radio) India’s Public Broadcaster took to his twitter handle and clarified, “The phase out of obsolete Analog Terrestrial TV transmitters is being misrepresented. Analog Terrestrial TV is an obsolete technology and phaseout of the same is in both public interest and national interest making valuable spectrum available for new technologies, saving power.”
He further wrote, “Content of DD Silchar will be broadcast on the satellite channel of Doordarshan dedicated to the state of Assam – DD Assam. Apart from this DD Silchar content will be available digitally on YouTube and on Social Media.” In another tweet, Sashi J wrote, “I have already clarified the issue to local publications of Barak Valley. DD Silchar will continue to generate local content.”
