The killers of Gandhi wearing his cap & khadi clothes trying to erase their tainted past: Sushmita Dev

November 15: During the Gandhi Sankalp Yatra taken out by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Silchar MP Dr. Rajdeep Roy has said that all these years, the Congress party has just used Mahatma Gandhi for their own benefit, but has never given him due regards. On the face of it, former MP and President of All India Mahila Congress, Sushmita Dev convened a press meet on Thursday at Indira Bhavan and severely criticised BJP on many counts.

Taking a dig at the District BJP President and its other leaders, Ms Dev said that people know very well the history of BJP and RSS. She said, It took 70 years after independence for the BJP to take out this Sankalpa Yatra in the memory of Mahatma Gandhi. Those who have killed Mahatma Gandhi, today they are wearing Gandhi cap and khadi kurta with the hope that their tainted past history will be wiped away from this country.”

Upholding Gandhi’s concept of domestic production or Swadeshi, she said, “Cachar district had only one heavy industry, that is, the Hindustan Paper Mill Corporation at Panchgram. BJP till now has failed to open the mill lying closed since more than 2 years. As regards Swachha Bharat drive, a concept close to Gandhi, she said our Prime Minister is spending crores for implementation of Swachhata. But the BJP-led Silchar Municipal Board has failed to utilise Rs. 3 crore sanctioned for Swachha Bharat and so ultimately Deputy Commissioner, Cachar has to interfere. The waste management project going on at Silchar is done under the aegis of DC, Cachar.

Sushmita Dev said, “Those who took out Gandhi Sankalpa Yatra at Cachar clad in khadi dress and Gandhi cap on their head, has handed over Gandhi Bagh, a place associated with the memory of Mahatma Gandhi to a private party for construction of hotel and mall.” She then went on to say that Gandhi is regarded by the entire world as an apostle of peace. However, at present, whenever any chaos occurs at Silchar we could see that people invoking the name of Ram indulge in hooliganism by breaking shops, damaging vehicles etc. She said, “I want to ask these people whether they believe in the Gandhian concept of non-violence?

“Jawaharlal Nehru spent almost 9 years of his life behind the bars during the Indian Freedom Movement. I want to know from those who took out Sankalpa Yatra wearing Gandhi cap that which leader(s) of BJP and RSS went to the prison by fighting against the British. You first tell us the names who were put behind the bars for liberating India from the British and only then you come out with your yatra.”

Sushmita Dev said that the history of the country cannot be changed by mere wearing Gandhi cap and khadi clothes. She said, “I want to ask RSS today that in your sakha’s you train youths yielding lathi and also train them in shooting. Doing all these acts of violence you take out Gandhi Sankalpa Yatra. This is just ridiculous!”

The press meet on Sunday was attended by AIMC President Sushmita Dev along with DCC President  Pradip Kr Dey and Secretary APCC Sanjeev Roy.
