The Big Fight: Institutions across Northeast to compete in Jyoti’s Quiz & Debate on 9 & 10 November

November 7: It’s something like Bruce Lee’s blockbuster ‘Return of the Dragon.’ Ofcourse, here it’s the return of ‘Jyoti’ in its new incarnation. Once a very popular organization, JYOTI was one of the largest crowd puller in the height of its popularity in the 90s where the entire District Library Auditorium used to be packed for all days of the event. Jyoti is now back to rule the hearts and the brains with its 2 flagship events, 15th North East Regional Inter College Invitational Quiz (NERICIQ) and 13th North East Regional Inter College Invitational Debate (NERICID).
In a press meet held on Thursday, the organisers of this gala event said, “The stage is all set for NERICIQ & NERICID to be held at Silchar Rajiv Bhawan on 9 & 10 November, 2019. The event will begin at 10 AM on 9 November.A big prize money awaits for those who will emerge victorious. But at the same time, we want our esteemed audience also to be intimately associated with the events. Keeping this view in mind, we have set aside a prize money to the tune of ₹ 10,000 for the audience. So do grab your seat along with the contestants and wait for your turn to rise up and win your part.”
Addressing the news persons, Ravi Patwa, Vice president of Jyoti and one of its founding member said, “Jyoti is a socio-literary cum Youth Welfare Organisation. We are happy to announce our comeback and that too with a bang. Educational institutions across North Eastern States have confirmed their participation. From Assam, a total of 18 institutions have confirmed their participation, which includes 3 institutes of technology, 2 medical colleges, 6 universities, 6 colleges and 1 school. From Meghalaya we have NEHU, NERIM, IIM-Shillong, St.Edmunds & Lady Keane College. From Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Tripura we will have with us one each institute, Mizoram University, NERIST-Itanagar, Sikkim Manipal University and Tripura University respectively.”
Sankarsan Adhikari – Convenor of the Event informed that the speaker of NERICID final would be his Excellency Hon’ble Governor of Nagaland & Interlocutor of the Naga Peace Talks R N Ravi. Mover of the motion would be ex-commonwealth inter university debate Runner up and Legendary Barak Valley Debator Prof Partha Sarathi Chanda and opposition Leader will be Mr Nilanjan Roy , Ex CEO, Times of India Group. The Motion of the Debate for NERICID final is ” Abrogation of Article 370 is a positive step.” In NERICID Prelims, the motion would be ‘ Media is responsible for the rising intolerance in the country.”
Gaurav Pal, PRO of Jyoti said, “The 15th North East Regional Inter College Invitational Quiz (NERICIQ) will indeed be a battle of wit. The Quiz Masters of this prestigious event will be Jimut Bahan Laskar from IBM Bangalore and Abhra Das from Guwahati. Jimut an alumni of Holy Cross School Silchar have himself won the title in NERICIQ twice during the 90s. Abhra Das, a Cottonian from Guwahati is credited to have conducted numerous such events in various prestigious institutes of Northeast.”
The event promises to be a Blockbuster one and would rekindle the excitement amongst the college going students, similar to what was witnessed during the 90s.
