খোঁজ মিলছে না গুয়াহাটির সেই কলেজ শিক্ষিকার !

১৮ ফেব্রুয়ারিঃ খোঁজ মিলছে না গুয়াহাটির সেই বরখাস্ত কলেজশিক্ষিকা পাপড়ি বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের! পুলওয়ামায় জঙ্গি হানার পরে ভারতীয় সেনাদের নিয়ে আপত্তিকর মন্তব্য করে সাময়িক বরখাস্ত হয়েছিলেন তিনি। পাশাপাশি, সোশ্যাল মিডিয়ায়ও বিভিন্ন ধরনের হুমকির মুখে তিনি। তাঁর বিরুদ্ধে দেশদ্রোহিতার অভিযোগে শিলচর থানায় মামলা হয়েছে। সেই মামলা গুয়াহাটিতে পাঠালে পুলিশ তাঁকে গ্রেফতারও করে। পরে অবশ্য জামিন পেয়ে যান। সোমবার থানায় হাজিরা দেওয়ার কথা ছিল তাঁর। কিন্তু যাননি। বিকেলে পুলিশ পাপড়ির বাড়িতে গেলে তাঁর খোঁজ মেলেনি।

ফেসবুকে পাপড়ি লিখেছিলেন, “এই আক্রমণ কাপুরুষোচিত। কিন্তু কাশ্মীরে ভারতীয় সেনা মহিলাদের ধর্ষণ করেছে, বাচ্চাদের খুন করেছে, পুরুষদের জবাই করেছে। দেশের সংবাদমাধ্যম নাগাড়ে সেখানকার লোকজনকে খলনায়ক সাজিয়েছে। কর্মফল তো ভোগ করতেই হবে।” তাঁর মন্তব্য, “গো-মাতা ও রাম মন্দিরের বাইরে অন্য কোনও কিছু নিয়ে মাথা না ঘামানো সরকারের বিরাট গাফিলতি। এরই ফলে এই জঙ্গি হানা সংঘটিত হয়েছে।” এখানেই থেমে যাননি পাপড়িদেবী। তিনি আরও লেখেন, ওই হামলা প্রধানমন্ত্রীকে ক্ষমতার ফেরানোর জন্য আরএসএসের চক্রান্তও হতে পারে।”

এই মন্তব্য নিয়ে ভাইরাল হতেই আইকন কমার্স কলেজ পরিচালন সমিতি পাপড়িকে সাময়িক বরখাস্ত করে। বলা হয়, মামলার নিষ্পত্তি না হওয়া পর্যন্ত তাঁকে সাসপেন্ড করা হয়েছে। গুয়াহাটি পুলিশের ক্রাইম ব্রাঞ্চ পাপড়িকে ডেকে জিজ্ঞাসাবাদ করে। পাপড়ি বলেন, “তাঁর বক্তব্যের ভুল ব্যাখ্যা হচ্ছে। তাঁকে হত্যা ও ধর্ষণ-সহ বিভিন্ন হুমকি দেওয়া হচ্ছে।’’ তা নিয়ে তিনিও এফআইআর করেছেন।

পাপড়ির বিরুদ্ধে গুয়াহাটির চাঁদমারি থানা ভারতীয় দণ্ডবিধির ৫০৫ ধারা ও তথ্য প্রযুক্তি আইনের ৬৬ নম্বর ধারায় পুলিশ নিজেরা একটি মামলা দায়ের করে।  অন্য দিকে, শিলচরের বাসিন্দা শুভাশিস চৌধুরী সদর থানায় ৫০৭, ২৯৪ ধারা ও তথ্য প্রযুক্তি আইনের ৬৬ নম্বর ধারার অধীনে এফআইআর করেন। এর পরই পাপড়িকে গ্রেফতার করে ঘণ্টাতিনেক জেরা করা হয়। পরে তাঁকে জামিন দিয়ে সোমবার হাজির হতে বলা হয়। কিন্তু এ দিন তিনি যাননি।

February 18: The suspended college teacher Papri Z Banerjee from Guwahati is all of a sudden untraceable. She was temporarily suspended from her college after making some ‘objectionable’ comments about Indian army in social media. She also complained of receiving various types of threat in social media. A sedition case was registered against her at Silchar Police station. Police arrested her when the case was transferred to Guwahati. She, however, was later on released on bail. She was supposed to appear in the police station on Monday. But she did not turn up there. In the evening police went to Papri’s house but could not find her there.

When the entire nation was raining anger on Pakistan sponsored terrorism on Indian soil, the college teacher in Guwahati was alleged by social media users to write on her Facebook wall an “inappropriate” post over the Pulwama terror attack. The Facebook post went viral with the social media users slamming her and tagging Assam Police to “take action” against the professor.

After a Twitterati shared the teacher’s post with the official Twitter handle of Assam police, an action was initiated. Responding to the tweet, the Assam Police said: “This is being looked into and appropriate action will be initiated.” In face of severe backlash, the accused Papri Z Banerjee, an Assistant professor of English removed the post from her timeline. In her Facebook post on Friday, the lady teacher at Icon Commerce College, Guwahati wrote:

After much uproar on social media, the Assistant Professor of Icon Commerce College was suspended by the college’s governing body on Saturday. It:was stated in the suspension letter that, “You are put under suspension with immediate effect till the matter is resolved by the competent authority.” The professor informed that she has been “questioned” by the Crime Branch of the Assam Police over the Facebook post. Meanwhile an FIR was registered against the professor at the Silchar Police Station.

It was learnt that the FIR was lodged by one Subhasish Choudhury of Chenguri Road, Silchar on February 16th, 2019 invoking IPC Section 507, 294 and IT Act 66. Another FIR against her was lodged at Chandmari Police Station invoking IPC Section 507 and IT Act 66.

However, later on the Assistant Professor told that her post was misinterpreted. The teacher alleged she has received death threats after her comment went viral on the social media. “Continuous rape, Lynch, and death threats are full in my inbox.” She has also lodged an FIR in this regard.
