TET Qualified teachers stages protest, demand regularisation of jobs

March 7: A protest demonstration was staged by the members of Cachar District Committee of Elementary TET Qualified Teachers’ Association, Assam in demand of regularisation of their jobs. The sit-in-protest was organised on Thursday afternoon in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Cachar. In this regard a memorandum was submitted to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal through the Deputy Commissioner, Cachar.

Speaking during the demonstration, Sumit Das, Secretary of the Association lamented that inspite of repeated assurance from various quarters, their jobs were yet to be regularised. They had even met with the then Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in 2015 but nothing fruitful was achieved. Similar opinion was also expressed by the President of the Association, Jhantu Kumar Malakar.

In the memorandum addressed to Chief Minister Assam, it was stated that the process of giving fresh appointments has further complicated their position as now they will have to compete along with the new appointees for the purpose of regularisation. Their main appeal is to regularise their service first and then to go for fresh appointments.

The issue of enhancing the grade pay of graduate teachers to Rs. 8700 was also raised during the protest demonstration. They gave an ultimatum to the government that if their demands are not fulfilled soon, they they might resort to boycott of forthcoming Gonotsav.
