Testimonials of all TET teachers appointed in past 5 years to be re-examined by Assam govt

Oct. 19: As the issue of fake TET (Teachers’ Eligibility Test) certificates have come to light, the state government has decided to act tough. The DSE (Directorate of Secondary Education), Assam has decided to re-examine the credentials of all the TET (Teachers’ Eligibility Test)-qualified candidates appointed under the Directorate during the last five years. Accordingly, the state directorate of secondary education has instructed all school inspectors of 21 districts to submit a report on the testaments of the TET-qualified teachers by October 22, 2021.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has been entrusted to conduct a probe into the fake TET certificate case following an initial inquiry conducted by the state education department that exposed that some people have got teachers’ jobs by producing fake TET certificates. Earlier, in connection to fake TET certificates, 36 teachers were arrested by the CID. Additionally, to investigate the matter the Assam government has set up a Special Investigation Team.

It needs mention here that between October 2016 and September 2021, the state education department appointed 5,592 TET-qualified applicants as post-graduate teachers (PGTs) and graduate teachers (GTs) in various provincialized high schools, higher secondary schools and high madrassas.

DSE Assam has sought the following details all school inspectors: Date of appointment; year of clearing TET; roll number of TET-cleared candidates, percentage of marks in TET, candidates’ contact numbers, and the institutes where they are presently serving.

In a similar move, the DHE (Directorate of Higher Education), Assam has also asked the Principals of all government and provincialised colleges of the state to submit the professional details of PhD and M. Phil acquired teachers and librarians of colleges appointed on or after January 1, 2016, within October 21.
