Team One Foundation stands beside a cobbler to live with dignity during pandemic

August 28: The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has upset the livelihood of millions. Since March 2020, a vast multitude of people are leading a life of abject poverty in the absence of any regular income. One such victim of the pandemic, Sankar Rabidas, a cobbler from Dwarbond was passing his days in a deplorable condition. His condition came to the notice of the members of the NGO Team One Foundation. Finally, due to the positive intervention of Team One Foundation, a new lease of life was given to Sankar Rabidas.

Sankar Rabidas, used to travel 10-12 kms everyday to Irongmara where he ran his roadside shop where he used to mend people’s shoes and earn his bread & butter. He often used to rent a bicycle for Rs.30 per day in order to reach his place of work. He stays with his brother in a house which was too in a pathetic condition. His wife died some years back. He has three daughters, all of whom are married.

The main customers of Sankar Rabidas are the students of Assam University, but due to the pandemic, classes are closed since March, 2020 and so now he could hardly earn Rs 20 per day. With this tiny sum, it became just impossible to run his family. It was at this juncture that the members of Team One Foundation came across the cobbler. Instantly, it was decided that they would help the man.

Arijit Goswami, General Secretary and founder Member of the NGO said, “At this stage, we requested our esteemed members to come forward and contribute towards the cause and bring smile on his face. Through the generous contribution we received, an amount of Rs. 50,000 was collected. With this amount, we purchased a new bicycle and a cow for the man. Further, we handed over the remaining amount in cash to him.”

A small function maintaining Covid protocol was organised by Team One Foundation in Dwarbond on Wednesday. The bicycle and cow was handed over to Sankar Rabidas by the President of Team one Foundation I.B.Ubhadia, General Secretary Arijit Goswami, Vice-President Debojyoti Ghosh, Dwarbond Police Station Incharge Monoj Rajbongshi and Health wings Incharge Niptu Paul. The event was organised by Team One Foundation’s Dwarbond wing Executive Members, Ajoy Deb, Dharmendra Tiwari, Deborshi Dey and Sandip Yadav
