Symposium on NEP 2020 organised by BSM unit of Assam University, opportunities & challenges highlighted
New committee formed of BSM formed with Prof G Ram as President & Dr Debotosh Chakraborty as Secretary
Feb. 14: Bharatiya Shikshan Mandal (BSM), Assam Visvavidyalaya Unit organised a symposium on NEP 2020: Implementation Strategies for Higher Education on Monday in Bipin Chandra Pal Auditorium of the varsity. The Vice Chancellor of Assam University, Prof. R.M. Pant inaugurated the symposium and Prof. GD Sharma, Vice Chancellor of USTM, Meghalaya delivered the keynote address in the presence of academicians, teachers, representatives of university and college teachers’ association, research scholars among others.
In the inaugural session Prof. Niranjan Roy delivered the welcome address and introduced the theme for the seminar. Prof. G.D. Sarma, Vice Chancellor, USTM, Meghalaya in his Keynote address elaborated the important changes made in the NEP 2020 document and its implications for higher educational institutions in the country. Dr. Pradosh Kiran Nath was the Guest of Honour in the inaugural session. In his speech, Dr Nath highlighted the important dimensions of NEP 2020 and the implementation framework for Assam University. Gouranga Roy, Prant Promuk, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, Dakshin Assam Prant was another Guest of Honour in the programme. He deliberated on India’s rich cultural history and heritage and highlighted how in course of time, the country has diverted itself from its rich tradition. He expressed happiness that with the implementation of NEP 2020 opportunity has come again for the Bharat to become Viswaguru.
Prof. R. M. Pant, Vice Chancellor, Assam University was the Chief Guest in the programme. In his deliberation, Prof Pant praised Bharatiya Shikshan Mandal for taking up the responsibility of organising this meaningful programme in the University. He has raised the issue of Macaulay’s minute and how the British were successful in fulfilling their goals to rule and exploit India. He said that NEP 2020 will transform higher education in the country. In his Presidential address, Prof. N.B.Dey said that NEP 2020 is a timely intervention by the Government of India to transform India’s competitiveness and build capacity in youth’s for overall economic development of the country. Dr Barunjyoti Choudhury delivered the vote of thanks. The session was compered by Dr Debotosh Chakraborty.
In the second session, a Panel discussion was organised which was chaired by Prof. R.M.Pant, Vice Chancellor, Assam University. The lead speaker Prof. Niranjan Roy made a powerful presentation on the implementation strategies for Assam University. The presentation was very comprehensive and exhaustive.
Other panelists in the session were Prof. Gopalji Mishra, Prof. G.Ram, Dr. Suprabir Dutta Roy, Prof.Anup Kr Dey from Diphu campus of Assam University, Dr. Bibhas Deb, Principal G.C.College, Dr. Devasish Sengupta, President, AUTA, Assam University, Sudarsan Gupta, Central Executive Member of ACTA. All the panelists raised critical issues of implementation of NEP 2020 which required serious attention by the institutions. ACTA representative, Sudarshan Gupta raised the issue of autonomy to be given to the colleges and suggested phased manner implementation of the NEP.
In the last session, Sarba Sadharan Sabha was organised to discuss organisational matters. The Sarba Sadhan Sabha was chaired by Prof. N.B.Dey, President,BSM, Assam Visvavidyalaya Samiti. Prof. Niranjan Roy, Secretary, BSM placed report of the activities undertaken during 13.03.2018 to 31.12.2021 along with audited statement of Receipt and Payments. A full-fledged committee has been constituted for the next three years for BSM, Assam Visvavidyalaya Samiti.
