Apart from The Kashmir Files, people also want to see NRC Files, D-Voter Files & Foreigners’ Files: Kamalakhya

March 21: Speaking during the Budget Session of the Assam Legislative Assembly, Congress MLA of North Karimganj, Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha took a dig at the state budget and vehemently criticised the government for its “failure to provide anything new.” On the issue of enthusiasm exhibited by the ruling BJP on the making of The Kashmir Files, MLA Dey Purkayastha said, “Many of our MLA’s have gone to watch the film and have become emotional after watching the film. Well, it’s quite natural to become emotional after watching any movie.”

“After the release of this film, many issues related to it are being trolled in social media, like, whose government it was during the 1990’s? It was then President’s Rule in Kashmir. So who was the Governor then? But I am not going through the details of these issues. As because we have become much emotional watching the film, I feel that we should give around Rs.400 to Rs.500 crore for the rehabilitation of the Pandits. What I feel is that both the central and the state government ought to take all necessary steps so that no type of extremism can raise its ugly head,” added the MLA from North Karimganj.

He also took a dig at the speech of the BJP MLA’s who said that steps should be taken so that we may not have to see something called “The Assam Files.” Dey Purkayastha said, “I think that film like Assam Files should be made.” Referring to NRC, he said, “In the past, Govt has assured to complete NRC within 100 days, but nothing such happened in reality. Around 148 persons died as a result of NRC, D-Voter, Declared Foreigners.” Reading names of deceased whose names were in D-Voters List, he said, “I want to know whether Falu Das, Subrata Dey Dulan Paul, Manik Dey, Arjun Namasudra, Chandradhar Das, Sushil Sarkar, Khukan MandalPuna Munda, Santosh Biswas, Nayan Das, Nibaran Kr Das were members of our Sanatan Dharma? We have met around 135 such people who led a life of fear in detention camps. We could feel their state of mind.”

“These 148 persons died due to the faulty policy and decision of the state government. So today, I feel that as The Kashmir Files movie has been made, similarly, films like NRC Camp Files, Detention Camp Files, D-Voter Files should also be made so that people could know about the pain and sufferings of these people,” added the Congress MLA.
