Surgical Strike Day observed throughout the valley along with rest of India
September 29: India will observe the second anniversary of the surgical strike carried out the Indian Army across the Line of Control as ‘Parakram Parv’ and the events to mark the occasion begin today. Several events were organised in different cities across the country to commemorate the valour of the armed forces.
In 2016, 10 days after the Uri attacks that claimed the lives of 19 jawans, the Indian Army executed surgical strikes across LoC, attacking terror hubs in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. Later, the Army announced that 38 terrorists and 2 Pakistani soldiers were killed in the strikes, though the Indian Army faced no casualties.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today visited the Jodhpur military base where he inaugurated an exhibition to mark the ‘Parakram Parv’. Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, NSA Ajit Doval were also present there. Commanders of all three wings of Indian armed forces are participating in the conference. The PM then inaugurated an army exhibition ‘Parakarm Parv’ at the military station, to mark the second anniversary of the surgical strikes. The Prime Minister later visited the Konark War Memorial.
On the direction of MHRD and UGC, Surgical Strike Day was observed by the colleges affiliated to Assam University, Silchar. NSS wings of the University and affiliated colleges observed this day in a befitting manner. Apart from the NSS wing of Assam University, Surgical Strike Day was also observed by Lala Rural college, S.R. College, Kalain, S.K. Roy College, Hailakandi, Pranab Jubilee College, Bokajan among others.
