Strict restrictions on boat movement across affected stretch of river Harang

way2barak, July 4: In the wake of the recent collapse of the bridge over the River Harang under Katigorah Revenue Circle, the District Administration has swung into action to avert any further risk to human life and property. Declaring the area vulnerable and fraught with potential dangers, the administration has imposed strict restrictions on boat movement across the affected stretch of the river. The directive, issued under the authority of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, aims to ensure immediate public safety and facilitate disaster risk reduction in the sensitive zone.
The heart of the order lies in a newly enforced regulation that permits the operation of boats only between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM, effective immediately and until further notice. Operating boats before or after the specified hours has been strictly prohibited. The measure is precautionary in nature, introduced with the objective of safeguarding the lives of residents and preventing any secondary incidents in the aftermath of the structural collapse.
District authorities have left no room for ambiguity in the enforcement of the order. The Officer-in-Charge of the Bhangarpar Police Out-post has been tasked with vigilant monitoring and rigorous implementation of the directive on the ground. Meanwhile, the Circle Officer of Katigorah Revenue Circle will oversee overall coordination and supervision to ensure that the order is fully and efficiently executed.
Recognising the crucial role of public awareness in times of crisis, The Regional office of Information & Public Relations (DDIPR), Cachar, has been directed to ensure wide publicity of the order through all available channels to reach every corner of the affected area.
The administration has also sent out a stern warning, any violation of the directive will be met with stringent penal action under relevant sections of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, and other applicable legal provisions.
The District Commissioner (In-Charge) has made it clear, the order is not merely a bureaucratic measure, but a critical step in preventing further harm in a region already reeling from infrastructural damage.
This is stated in a press release issued from Regional office of Information & Public Relations Barak valley Zone Silchar Assam.
