Strict compliance with election printing norms mandated in Cachar

way2barak, March 19: – In view of the forthcoming Assembly Election 2026, the District Administration of Cachar has issued a directive reiterating the mandatory provisions under Section 127A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, concerning the printing and publication of election-related materials.
The order states that no individual or entity shall print or publish, or cause to be printed or published, any election pamphlet, poster, or similar material unless it clearly bears the names and addresses of both the printer and the publisher. It further stipulates that printing of such materials can only proceed upon submission of a duly signed declaration by the publisher, attested by two persons known to him, and provided in duplicate to the printer. One copy of this declaration, along with a copy of the printed material, must subsequently be forwarded by the printer to the Chief Electoral Officer if printed in the State capital, or to the District Magistrate in other cases.
The directive however also states that any method of reproducing documents, other than manual copying, shall be treated as printing under the Act. Election pamphlets and posters include all printed materials intended to promote or prejudice the electoral prospects of any candidate or group, as well as those announcing details of election meetings or conveying instructions to election agents and workers.
Violation of these provisions will attract penal action, including imprisonment for a term of up to six months, or a fine which may extend to Rs. 2,000, or both.
Meanwhile,the District Administration has urged all concerned to adhere strictly to these legal requirements and ensure full compliance in letter and spirit.
