Sports enthusiast Pranabananda Das urges Silchar DSA to name a scholarship in memory of Sishutosh Basak

March 26: Sishutosh Basak, the life member of District Sports Association (DSA), Silchar breathed his last on 17 March, 2022. Even at his advanced age, he associated himself with various activities of Silchar DSA. He was also an able sports organiser. As a mark of tribute to this ardent sports lover, senior journalist and member of General Council of Silchar DSA, Pranabananda Das came up with a proposal of initiating a scholarship in the name of Sishutosh Basak. He proposed to provide an annual scholarship in the memory of Sishutosh Basak to any young football player.

In a letter addressed to the General Secretary of Silchar DSA on 18 March, Pranabananda Das wrote, “As we are still in shock for sudden demise of Sishutosh Basak, one of the strong Pillars of Silchar Sports, I would humbly request you to initiate an annual scholarship in memory of this great soul of Sports to a talented local budding Football Player (preferably under 16) as selected by you.”

He further offered to contribute Rs.5000 every year in this connection. Mr Das added, “The selection process for award of this scholarship entirely will be the responsibility of Silchar DSA. I would like to request to handover the scholarship on 17 March every year (Death Anniversary of Sishu Da).”
