Spike in Covid cases: Closure of all bi-weekly, weekly bazaars in Karimganj district

May 13: In view of surge in COVID-19 positive cases in the district, the district administration has ordered closure of all bi-weekly and weekly bazaars and markets for 15 days with effect from Thursday. An order issued to this effect was issued here on Wednesday by District Magistrate cum Chairman, DDMA, Anbamuthan MP.

The order stated that the step has been taken to contain the further spread of the virus and for safety of public health. It instructed the Block Development Officers to enforce the order in coordination with the respective Circle Officers and Officer Incharge of Police Stations.

As many as 50 bazaars under the respective jurisdictions of Karimganj Municipal Board, Badarpur Municipal Board, Ramkrishna Nagar Municipal Board, Patharkandi revenue town and Nilambazar and their peripheral areas will remain closed for next 15 days w.e.f. 5 am of Thursday.

The order warned that any violation is punishable under Section 51 to 60 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 and under Section 188 of the IPC. The administration has also put in force the odd-even number formula regarding plying of vehicles barring vehicles on government and emergency medical duties every alternate date between 5 am to 2 pm.
