Soumitra Chaterjee’s condition worsens, given blood transfusion
Nov. 1: Veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee’s condition worsened on Sunday night. Since his haemoglobin level fell, the actor had to undergo blood transfusion. The 85-year-old Chatterjee was admitted to a private hospital in the city 25-days back after he tested positive for COVID-19. Chatterjee tested negative for Covid-19 on October 14 but his neurological system was affected by Covid encephalopathy.
One of the attending doctors said in a statement, “We tried to seal the bleeding. It was somewhat successful but is yet to be fully successful. We will look into the matter tomorrow (Monday) and figure out how to completely contain the bleeding. But due to the entire situation, his level of consciousness is still the same. His organ functions are holding on.”
The veteran actor is on ventilator support since last week. However Chatterjee’s “organ functions are holding on, he is putting on urine and oxygen part is satisfactory,” and the doctors are not losing hope despite “so many things happening for an 85-year old.”
