Skill Upgradation in Handloom Weaving inaugurated at Singerbond

November 11: Laya Madduri, Deputy Commissioner Cachar along with Minister of Forest, Excise & Fishery Department Parimal Suklabaidya and MLA Lakhipur, Rajdeep Goala attended the inauguration programme of Skill Upgradation in Handloom Weaving under Cluster Development Scheme held under the aegis of Handloom and Textile Department, Govt. of Assam at Singerbond Pt V. 

In her speech, Laya Madduri said, “Handloom and Textile Department has a great role in women empowerment of this area where every woman knows weaving. She also urged all concerned to utilise this scheme properly and contribute to convert this area into a weaving hub and to promote this region at national level through unique handloom textiles.”

Speaking during the occasion, Parimal Suklabaidya said that Singerbandh is the right place to sanction such projects and Manipuri women are the only women in the society who can weave handloom fabric both for their traditional attire and commercial purposes. He also mentioned that mill and factory can’t make such type designed fabrics which Manipuri women can weave. He said, “Now-a-days, textiles are given first priority other than agriculture, Manipuri traditional products can reach the national level market. I am hopeful that the talented handloom weavers of this village can definitely sell their products in big cities of the country.”

While addressing the gathering, MLA Lakhipur Rajdeep Goala said that after a long period such type of big handloom project is sanctioned in his constituency and every household of this village can do weaving by virtue of their traditional skills. He further said that this project this project would enable them to showcase their talents and be equally benefited through through it.

On the same day, Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri dressed in traditional Manipuri attire also inaugurated the Diamond Jubilee Celebration programme of Singerbond High School. In her brief speech, DC Cachar appreciated the activities of the school and hoped that all the teachers, students and others associated with the school would put in their best efforts to ensure all round development of the institution. She also inspected the worst effected erosion sites in Singerbond area in presence of Executive Engineer Water Resource Division, Silchar.
