Silchar Inner Wheel Club conducts awareness among barbers on World AIDS Day
Dec. 1: Along with the rest of the country, World AIDS Day was observed by Silchar Inner Wheel Club on Tuesday. World AIDS Day, designated on 1 December every year since 1988, is an international day dedicated to raising awareness of the Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection and mourning those who have died of the disease. The theme for World AIDS Day, 2020 is ‘Ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic: Resilience and Impact.’
An awareness programme was organised by Silchar Inner Wheel Club among 10 barbers of New Silchar area. Dr. Pritom Kumar Das (General Surgeon of SMCH) delivered an awareness speech on AIDS amongst these barbers. He adviced them about how to protect and prevent themselves from the disease. He also assured them that AIDS is not contagious.
Sutapa Bhattacharjee, President of Silchar Inner Wheel Club expressed thanks to Dr. Pritom Kumar Das for making himself available for the awareness camp. The members of the club distributed some necessary items of use in saloon. Edible items like rice, dal, soyabean etc were also distributed among them. Apart from these items, the barbers were also provided them with masks and sanitizers.
The programme was attended by IWC Silchar President Sutapa Bhattacharjee, Secretary Shilpi Ghosh and Joint Secretary Minu Choudhury.
