Sikhs organise Langar at Silchar Gurdwara, delivers food to the poor & needy
শিলচর গুরুদোয়ারায় লঙ্গর, বিতরণ বিশফুটি-কৃষ্ণনগরে

১৪ এপ্রিলঃ শিলচরের ‘গুরুদোয়ারা শ্রীগুরু সিং সভা’য় এ বারও বৈশাখী উপলক্ষে প্রার্থনার আয়োজন করা হয়। তবে করোনার দরুন স্থানীয় কয়েকজনই তাতে অংশ নেন। ওই শিখসঙ্গতে উপস্থিত সবাই করোনামুক্ত বিশ্বের জন্য বিশেষ প্রার্থনা করেন।

পরে গুরুদোয়ারার রান্নাঘরে লঙ্গর তৈরি হয়। তবে এ বার আর গুরুদোয়ারায় গিয়ে কারও লঙ্গরে অংশ নেওয়ার সুযোগ ছিল না। তাই তাঁরা ২৩০ জনের মধ্যাহ্নভোজন তৈরি করে নিয়ে যান শহরের পিছিয়ে পড়া বিশফুটি ও কৃষ্ণনগর এলাকায়। এনজিও আবেগের সহায়তায় তা দুস্থদের মধ্যে বিতরণ করে দেওয়া হয়।

April 14: A prayer session was organised at Silchar Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh on the occasion of Baishaki. This is a regular feature of the Gurdwara held every year. However, due to the outbreak of coronavirus, this year only a select few take part in the prayers maintaining ‘social distancing.’ Prayers were made to make the world free from the onslaught of coronavirus.

This was followed by a langar. Langar (Punjabi: ਲੰਗਰ), is the term used in Sikhism for the community kitchen in a Gurdwara where a free meal is served to all the visitors, without distinction of religion, caste, gender, economic status or ethnicity. However, due to the lockdown, none could visit the Gurdwara and participate in the Langar.

They cooked food for around 230 persons and then distributed it among the poor and needy people residing at ‘Bishfuti’ & ‘Krishnanagar’ area of Silchar. The cooked food was distributed with the help of NGO Aabeg. The food served in the Langar is always simple, so as to prevent wealthy congregations turning it into a feast that shows off their superiority.
