Shatrughan Sinha to join Congress on 6 April, to contest from Patna Sahib vs Ravishankar Prasad
March 28: Khamoshh…. (Keep Quiet)… A famous word in the Bollywood till today uttered by Shatrughan Sinha long ago. The Actor-turned politician who has been associated with BJP for about three decades ultimately broke his ‘khamoshi’ and met Congress President Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi on Thursday.
Shatrughan Sinha is a two-term BJP Lok Sabha member from Patna Sahib Singh but was dropped by the saffron party which chose to field union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad from the seat. Sinha had won the seat in 2014 Lok Sabha polls. On joining the Congress and fighting the polls against the BJP’s Ravi Shankar Prasad, Sinha said whatever be the situation, he will fight the polls from Patna Sahib. He said the announcement would be made on the auspicious occasion of ‘Navratra’.
The BJP is contesting the Lok Sabha election in alliance with the Janata Dal-United and the Lok Janshakti Party in Bihar. On the other hand, the Congress is in alliance with the Rashtriya Janata Dal in the state that sends 40 members to the Lok Sabha.
Senior Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil tweeted that Sinha will join the party on April 6. “BJP MP Shatrugna Sinha ji met our Congress President Shri @RahulGandhi today and in national interest has decided to join Congress. He will formally join Congress on April 6,” Gohil wrote on Twitter.
When Sinha met Gandhi at his residence at New Delhi, others who were also present there includes Bihar in-charge of Congress Shaktisinh Gohil, Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee chief Madan Mohan Jha, working president Akhilesh Singh and the Congress’s legislature party leader in Bihar Sadanand Singh.
