Section 144 CrPC imposed along Indo-Bangladesh border in Cachar

Aug 3: In apprehension of unauthorised movements of commodities, cattles from Cachar District through the areas the district borders which may cause disturbances and in view of fear of movement of extremists’ elements from bordering country, Cachar District Magistrate has imposed Section 144 Cr PC along Indo-Bangladesh border of the district.

Issuing an order to this effect on Tuesday, District Magistrate Cachar, Keerthi Jalli stated that no person shall move between sunset to sunrise within the belt of 1 KM of Indo-Bangladesh border of Cachar District. No person shall move on the river Surma and on its high banks within the limits of territory in actual control of India in the District of Cachar between sunset to sunrise.

No person shall ply boat in the river Surma for the purpose of fishing. Permission for fishing may only be given to the locals by the Circle Officer, Katigorah for their personal consumption after obtaining permission from the lessee and a copy of such permission should be endorsed to the District Magistrate, Cachar and Commandant 1st Bn, BSF, Dholchera.

The order further stated that no person shall carry by any vehicle, thela, rickshaw or any other means, any quantities of sugar, rice, wheat, edible oils, S.K oil and salt etc between sunset to sunrise within 5K Ms belt inside the district boundary of Cachar along Bangladesh border, provided that permit may be issued in this regard by Circle Officer Katigorah who will permit relaxation, if any, for specific purpose, time and place after verification from the local supply officials with a copy to the District Magistrate Cachar and 1st Bn BSF Dholchera.

This order shall not apply to state and central government employees on duty in the border areas. This order is issued exparte in the interest of public order and shall come into force with immediate effect. The order shall remain in force for two months from the date of order.
