Rukma Gohain Baruah appointed as Chairman of AHSEC, to replace Dayananda Borgohain
May 25: Finally, the state government has changed the ‘controversial’ Chairman of Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC). Dayananda Borgohain in his tenure as Chairman of AHSEC made certain controversial statements against the Bengalis of Barak Valley following which multiple FIRs were lodged against him. Dayananda Borgohain in an interview with a television channel urged upon the Bengalis to secede from Assam and merge with Bengal, if they want teaching- learning process to continue in Assam in Bengali language. Complaints against him were also made to Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma by various organisations of Barak Valley.
Finally, the Assam government has relieved Dayananda Borgohain from his post and appointed Rukma Gohain Baruah as the new Chairman of Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC).
Taking to his Facebook Page on 25 May, state Education Minister Ranoj Pegu wrote, “The Government of Assam congratulates Mr. Rukma Gohain Baruah (M.A., M.Ed), Principal, Post Graduate Training College, Lakhimpur, on his appointment as the Chairman of the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council. He is the grandson of Padmanath Gohani Baruah, the first president of the Assam Sahitya Sabha.”
