Rise in COVID cases: Palonghat Model Hospital to be converted for treatment of corona cases

July 9: The number of coronavirus positive cases in Cachar district is also increasing by leaps and bounds. On Thursday alone, 40 new COVID-19 positive cases were reported from across Cachar. In the last 7 days, around 100 cases were reported from Cachar. Initially, all COVID-19 positive patients were treated at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). However, with the rise of new positive cases, a COVID ward was also started in S.M. Dev Civil Hospital, Silchar.

During routine press briefing, District Media Expert Suman Choudhury said that there are 50 beds in the COVID Ward of S.M. Dev Civil Hospital, out of which, 40 beds are already occupied. As the number of cases is on the rise, so the health department is contemplating to start two to three new COVID hospitals in the district. In this connection, Sumon Choudhury informed that as of now, Palonghat Model Hospital will be converted to COVID hospital. This will be a dedicated Covid hospital. Mr. Choudhury informed that around 80 to 85 patients can be accommodated at Palonghat Model Hospital.

The District Media Expert, however, said, “This does not mean that we have allotted all seats meant for COVID patients at SMCH & Silchar Civil Hospital. We need to keep some seats in our hand at SMCH for any serious coronavirus patients coming from the nearby districts. So our next move will be to accommodate patients at Palonghat Model Hospital.
